Integral Physical Therapy

Dr. Chris Edmundson’s journey to a physical therapy career all started with running. As a competitive runner throughout his childhood, he suffered from a number of injuries, which led to many visits to his physical therapist. It was his extensive experience as a patient that drew him to the profession and continues to fuel his empathy and passion for helping his patients.

For most of his career, Dr. Edmundson worked for urban and suburban hospital-based outpatient therapy departments. This exposed him to some of the most challenging patient cases and allowed for collaboration with some of the best therapists in the profession. However, he began to see massive inequity issues in the level of care and provider shortages and became concerned.

In response, Dr. Edmundson started Integral Physical Therapy in 2016, taking the best features of hospital-based physical therapy, combining it with the easy access and personalized care of a smaller therapy clinic. In 2021, Integral Physical Therapy used a $100,000 CLIMBER loan through B:Side Fund, in partnership with Colorado Housing & Financing Authority, helped finance working capital and advanced equipment. Integral Physical Therapy occupies a niche in the industry, providing equitable and inclusive, insurance-based outpatient physical therapy. They use evidence-based treatment that is proven to decrease pain, increase performance, and reduce unnecessary costs.

The team are strong supporters of Conscious Capitalism and the company does well by first doing good. They believe in caring for the underserved and promoting health and self-efficacy. In a healthcare system where money drives care delivery, they have ensured that their patients do not take a backseat to profit.

In addition to their superior level of patient care, they give back to the community, donating at least 2% of their annual profits to local groups and charities. They also offset their energy usage with renewables to reduce their carbon footprint. Moreover, Dr. Edmundson teaches at Regis University as Affiliate Faculty in the School of Physical Therapy. He mentors students, residents, and/or fellows every year to elevate the quality of care within the healthcare system. Many of whom go on to work for him, drawn by the company’s values.

Integral Physical Therapy has experienced great success, expanding to six offices in just eight years and growing to 45 employees. In 2021, revenue grew 51% and patient volume 41% thanks to the CLIMBER money they received and their growth has been exponential. In 2022, they continued to grow revenue 24% and patient volume 21% and an additional 55% revenue increase and 57% patient increase in 2023. This year, they are on pace to increase revenue 22% and patient volume by 17%. They are now the largest provider of pelvic health physical therapy services in Colorado!
