Celebrating Black History Month: Honoring Black Entrepreneurs and their Impact
February marks Black History Month, a time to reflect on the profound history, achievements, and contributions of Black individuals across all sectors, particularly in business. This month we celebrate the resilience, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit of Black business owners, who have long played a critical role in shaping the fabric of American society and the economy.
Black entrepreneurs have always found ways to innovate, uplift their communities, and create opportunities where they were often overlooked. Today, Black-owned businesses continue to be a driving force in our economy, contributing to job creation, economic growth, and wealth-building, especially in historically underserved communities. Recent census data reports that there are approximately 161,031 Black-owned businesses in the United States, collectively generating around $183.3 billion in annual revenue and providing employment for roughly 1.4 million people.
At B:Side Fund, we are proud to recognize and support the ongoing legacy of Black entrepreneurship. Last year, 28% of our loan funding was directed toward BIPOC-owned businesses, helping to expand access to capital and resources that empower entrepreneurs to succeed.
